About the Clipper Adventurer
The 122-passenger Clipper Adventurer was built in 1975 as the Alla Tarasova, and is being completely converted and refitted in 1997-98 in a Scandinavian shipyard. She is a handsome expedition vessel measuring 330 feet long by 53.5 feet wide, with a draft of 16 feet. Reminiscent of the days of the great ocean liners when ships were ships, with lots of varnished wood and brass, Clipper Adventurer boasts a spacious, covered promenade with beautiful wooden deck of Oregon pine, where passengers can view the passing seascapes. There is plenty of open deck space on the Boat Deck, while an observation platform forward below the Bridge is ideal for wildlife viewing.All-new passenger accommodations are all outside, with lower beds, private bathroom facilities, and individual temperature controls. Some cabins have an additional pullman bed. The window-lined dining room seats all passengers at a leisurely single sitting, and you will enjoy superb American and Continental cuisine. There are two lounges the Main Lounge & Bar, where most lectures will be given, seats 130 people; while the smaller Clipper Club & Bar seats 45 passengers. There is also a gymnasium and sauna, a small library/card room, and a beauty salon.
The ship is powered by two MAN B&W diesel engines rated at approximately 2,640 s.h.p. each. Maneuverability is increased by a 500 h.p. bowthruster and controllable pitch propellors. Clipper Adventurer is fitted with stabilizers for your comfort at sea, and has an ice-hardened hull rated Ice Class 1-A for unrestricted passenger service by Lloyd's Register. She is fitted with state-of-the-art satellite navigation and communications equipment, including telephone and fax. She carries a Passenger Ship Safety Certificate issued under the provisions of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).
The Clipper Adventurer will be one of the finest expedition vessels in the world. She has a fleet of go-anywhere Zodiac landing craft, and operates an open-Bridge policy. There will be an on-board team of experienced expedition leaders and lecturers, and the ship's officers and many of the crew also have extensive experience of expedition cruising.
